I would appreciate any comments people in Camden County have about the proposed landfill. I would like to add a couple of points that I feel are pertinent. First, people in the County think that we will receive the estimated $1 million dollars a year to spend as we see fit. This isn't the case. The money will be placed in a trust. Also, according to reputable services, eco tourists spend an average of $5 to every $1 spent by the average consumers. We live in one of the most viable areas for eco tourism in the country! With plans in place to join Chesapeake, VA in the Nature Trail project, why in the hell would we locate a 300 foot tall pile of trash right next to the future of our County? It just doesn't make sense. To all of the people who say we have no choice but to host this environmental nightmare I want you to remember that this dump will be here FOREVER!!! No material will last for all time. Even if the landfill liner never leaks, are we going to require every truck traveling to and from the landfill to be lined with the same material?
